Chromebook: How to Fix “Access Denied” Error Message After Logging Into itslearning
Access Denied on Itslearning: Remove Itslearning Bookmark(s), Removes Error Message

Some itslearning users may be experiencing an “Access Denied” error message after entering their login information (username and password) and signing in to itslearning, BCSC’s online learning management system.
The error message might appear if the student has created an “itslearning bookmark” on their web browser and using this bookmark to login to itslearning. A bookmark appears across the top banner of the browser, below the URL.
If a student has created an itslearning bookmark, this bookmark may actually be a link to a specific itslearning course from a previous school year-a course the student is no longer enrolled in, a course that is inactive, or a course that has ended. If the bookmark created by the student is associated with a past itslearning course, the “Access Denied” message appears because the student no longer has access to this past, inactive course.
To make sure students can successfully access itslearning without the “Access Denied” message, the student will need to delete any and all itslearning bookmarks the student has created on their web browser. To do this, click the 3-dot button in the top right corner of the browser, below the X, close window button.
Select “Bookmarks”, then “Bookmark Manager”.
Or, use the keyboard shortcut CTRL + SHIFT + O to open the bookmark manager.
All of the bookmarks the student has created will appear. Locate the itslearning bookmark and click the 3-dot function button on the right side of the screen.
When the menu appears, select “delete” to remove the bookmark. Repeat this process for any additional itslearning bookmarks created by the student.
The student can access itslearning without the “Access Denied” message by using a bookmark BCSC created for all students-a bookmark that is not associated with a specific itslearning course, but instead takes all students to the homepage of itslearning. To access itslearning this way, click the “students.bcsc.k12.in.us bookmarks” icon across the top banner of the browser.
Select “itslearning” from the options menu, enter login credentials, and access itslearning courses.
Another way students can access itslearning without the “Access Denied” error message is by using the itslearning icon and link on the BCSC website. Go to www.bcscschools.org , and below the scrolling video, select the itslearning button/icon on the right of the screen. Enter login credentials and access itslearning courses.
If you receive the “Access Denied” message when trying to get to an assignment, link, or resource in one of your courses, it could be due to a permissions setting or link in the course that the teacher can change. Be sure to message your teacher. If you continue to experience technical difficulties, please contact your teacher and/or your school building. Thank you and happy learning!
If you are receiving an “access denied” error in itslearning immediately upon logging in (shown above), you will need to clear your browser’s cache history following the steps below. If you do not follow the process below and clear data from “all time”, the error message will not go away.
Click the 3-dot button in Chrome web browser in the top right corner. Select History, and “History” again.
Select “clear browsing data”.
When the new window appears, select “Advanced”. Then, in the “time range”, click the drop down menu and select “all time”.
Scroll down and make sure all of the checkboxes are checked marked blue in the window. Then, click “clear data”.
Close out of your browser, open it again, and you should be good to go!
Deleting the user
Click on the bottom information box with the time, battery, and WiFi
Click on the sign out button
3. Click on the down arrow
4. Click on “Remove this user”
5. Confirm that you want to remove the user
6. Login again using the FULL username (email@example.com)
Removing bookmarks and keeping cookies
Click on 3 dots on the top right
Hover over Bookmarks
Click on “Bookmark manager”
4. Click on the top 3 dots next to ANY itslearing bookmark that is not under student bcsc bookmarks.
5. Select delete. Delete any itslearning bookmark that is not under student bcsc bookmarks.
Changing Cookie Settings
Click on Advanced and then Privacy and Security (*note that this may look different on some Chromebooks but the settings are there)
2. Select “Site Settings”
3. Click on Cookies and Site Data
4. Click on Add next to “Clear on exit” and add bartholomew.itslearning.com
5. Logout and log back in
