Subject line: Notice from BCSC Technology: Google My Drive replacing your I drive
Body of message:
Google My Drive is replacing your I drive in October 2022. Over the next six months, BCSC Technology will provide information to help you switch from I to My Drive.
What is I drive? I drive is a space on the BCSC network for you to store your files. Most BCSC users have an I drive although many have already stopped using it in favor of Google My Drive. I drive is only accessible from a Windows computer on the BCSC network.
Why is I drive going away? BCSC Technology continues to implement 'anytime, anywhere access' technology. I drive is only accessible when on the BCSC network while Google My Drive is accessible from anywhere and from any device. Additionally, BCSC can reduce file storage and backup costs by eliminating server-based storage like I drive.
When is this happening? Your I drive will be available to you until Friday, October 14, 2022.
Here's what to expect:
- Now through May: No change to I drive. BCSC Technology will provide you with information on how to create a mapped drive to your My Drive and how to transfer files as needed/desired. The information will be included in the monthly BCSC Technology Transmissions Newsletter.
- June through September: Your I drive will be changed to read only. You will be able to access your files and copy them to your Google My Drive, but you won't be able to add, modify, or remove files from your I drive.
- October 14, 2022: I drive will no longer be accessible.
