All Certified Teachers at BCSC should have access to Linewize Classroom Manager. If you don't have access, please enter a ticket on Incident IQ.
Building Administrators have Monitor access to Linewize Classroom Manager.
Classwize can only be used from 7:30 a to 3:15 pm on school days.
Linewize Classroom Manager allows BCSC teachers to monitor student activity on BCSC Chromebooks and set usage rules for their classroom. The classes are synced with PowerSchool every night.
To log into Linewize Classroom Manager, use this link and sign in with your BCSC Google account.
1. Schedule a Class
If your class meets at the same time every week, scheduling it is a good idea. A scheduled class starts and ends automatically, and any Focus settings and Rules you've assigned will also apply automatically at those times.
To set a schedule:
Click the Scheduling button, then click Create Class Schedule.
Enter the day of the week, start time, end time, and end date.
Click Active to turn the schedule on, then click Save.
To add a schedule for another day, click +Add New Schedule.
Once saved, your class settings will automatically start and end at the times you set, on each active day, until the end date you chose (or until you edit the schedule).
2. Modify Students
You can add or remove students from your class as needed. Keep in mind that removed students will be added back automatically during the nightly sync.
To add a student: Enter their name and click the matching result. The student will be added to your class.
To remove a student: Click the red X next to their name.
Note: you don't need to remove a student from your class for another teacher to view them in theirs. If a student's device is contested in Classwize, the current teacher can click Claim Student to take charge of it.
3. Renaming Classes
When a class is first created, its section name will appear as a string of numbers — this is the PowerSchool identifier. To give it a more recognizable name, click Rename Class and enter a new name. This name will persist through the nightly class sync.
You can also pin classes so they appear at the top of your dashboard.
4. Classroom Settings
You can add any teacher to your class by clicking Classroom Settings and searching for them in the search window. Added teachers will not be removed during the nightly sync.
Note that your class settings won't carry over to an added teacher — they'll need to rename the class and set up their own rules if needed.
If you remove a teacher from a class while they're still listed as part of that class in PowerSchool, they will be added back during the nightly sync.
5. Add Class
You can manually create a class for educational activities that fall outside of the classes already created in PowerSchool. To do this, click Add Class, enter a class name, and decide whether to pin it.
Once the class is created, use the Modify Students button to add students.
To delete a created class, click Classroom Settings - Delete Class
6. Combine Classes
You can combine any PowerSchool or manually created classes. Click Combine Classes, check the sections you'd like to combine, give the combined class a name, and click Combine Classes. This setting will persist through the nightly sync. There can be a maximum of 25 classes and up to 100 students in a combined class.
To split the classes back apart, go to Classroom Settings and click Split Classes. You can also add teachers in Classroom Settings -
7. Focus Library
Focus helps keep students on task by allowing access only to approved resources during class, blocking all other browsing. We recommend creating Focus using the Create Focus feature in Class Tools, as it offers more options. Below is the guide for creating Focus this way.
You can apply Focus manually during an active class or preset it before class. If you preset Focus to a scheduled class, it will start automatically.
Click Focus in Class Tools
Click Save this focus to my library if you would like to keep this Focus for later. If unchecked, this focus will be erased when cancelled.
Add the resources you would like students to be restricted to during your class. IMPORTANT! The restriction is severe and applies to authentication methods. Make sure that the students are logged in to the websites before turning on the focus feature. Note that some resources can be found and some may need to be entered as a URL.If you want to use the “Lock to page” option, you have to enter a URL as this feature can be only applied to a specific page. This is a good option if you want your elementary students to only be able to view one YouTube video, for example. Please note that if the URL changes, the page will be blocked even if the website stays the same. For Locked down browser setup, see this article.
If you see a message that says “Locked Rule”, that means that you are trying to allow a resource that's locked at the district level and cannot be allowed. If you think that the resource has educational value, please enter a ticket on IncidentIQ and we will review the unblock request.
Click Select Students. You will see a reminder that students must be logged in to any of the resources for the Focus to work. Click Got It.
Select the students you want to apply Focus to or click All Students and click Preset Focus.
You will see that the focus is saved to your class. It will automatically be applied when the class starts.
To edit, click the pencil icon and to end Focus, click the x icon. If you clicked "Save this focus to my library in step 3, this focus will be available to choose from when you click Class Tools - Focus.
To delete a saved Focus, go to Focus Library on the main page. Click on the Trashcan icon to remove the Focus from the library.
Starting and Ending Sessions
Click on the section you need, then click Start Class to begin your session. Enter an accurate Session End time and click Start. You'll begin seeing students' icons populate with live images of their Chromebook screens.
If you've set up a Class Schedule, the class will start automatically according to that schedule.
To end a session, click End Session. If a session doesn't end on time, a conflict can arise where a student appears to be in two classes at once. When this happens, another teacher can click Claim Student to take charge and apply their own classroom management policies.
You can also claim multiple students by clicking at the alert at the top of the page.
After a class is started, you will see several available options.
1. Student Screen
By default, you'll see a live representation of each student's screen in their icon. Clicking the Chrome icon at the bottom of a student's screen shows a list of all their open tabs. Click the X next to a tab to close it. Click the Rule icon to start setting up a rule for that tab (see the Rules section for details).
You can click List View to switch all student's screen view to a list of tabs.
Clicking in the middle of a student's screen brings up a larger view. You can click through their different tabs to review them — this won't interfere with the student's activity.
Click Follow Active Tab to automatically switch the view to whatever the student is currently viewing.
Click Create Rule to create a rule based on the currently open page.
Click Screenshot to take and download a picture of the student's current activity.
2. Open Tab
Open Tab lets you open a single website on all or selected students' devices.
Clicking Open Tab on a student's screen will open that tab for just that student. Using Open Tab in Class Tools will open the tab for all students in the active class.
3. Reports
The Classwize Screenshot History Report lets you generate and download screenshots of your students’ browsing history. Screenshots appear on the report 30 seconds after being taken and are captured in 10-second intervals or each time a student views another tab.
The Screenshot History Report only captures your student’s browsing history while in an active Classwize class. You can view screenshots of your students’ browsing history taken from any active classes over the past 14 days, even if other teachers run those classes.
To run the screenshot report, open a class the student is enrolled in.
On the class toolbar, select Reports > Screenshot History.
On the Screenshot History dialog:
Select the student’s name from the Select a Student drop-down.
Select the period covered by the report on the date picker.

Classwize Rules lets you apply exceptions to your school’s internet filtering policies by allowing or blocking content for students in your class. You can apply rules to your entire class or to a single student until the class ends, or you can turn them off.
Some content is blocked using Locked Policies in Linewize Filter. You can’t override any Locked Policies with Classwize Rules or any other features. Classwize will warn you if you try to make a rule that conflicts with a Locked Policy. Note: If you think the content you want to block or allow is Locked, enter a ticket on IIQ to review the website.
The Rules panel shows you all the filtering rules you’ve set for your class so far, and who they apply to.

You can use Classwize to project your laptop screen directly to students' devices.
Click Screen Share in Class Tools
Select whether you want to screen share to all students or only certain ones
Select what you want to share. To avoid sharing unintended information with your students, we recommend sharing only a specific Chrome Tab. Click Share.
A new tab will open on selected students' screens showing your shared tab. Students will be able to continue viewing your screen until your click Stop Sharing on the shared tab.
