Pending Deletion Google Drive Label
Table of Contents
Overview
To maintain data security and follow district retention policies, we periodically deactivate and remove old Google Workspace accounts.
When an account is scheduled for removal, any files they owned that were shared with you will be tagged with a "Pending Deletion" label.
Why am I seeing this label?
You are seeing this label because you are not the "Owner" of the file. The original creator is no longer with the district, and their account is nearing its final deletion date.
Note: Once the owner’s account is deleted, you will lose access to these files. The label is your signal to move any important data now.
How to Find Labeled Files
You can quickly see every file that requires your attention by using the search bar in Google Drive:
Open Google Drive.
In the search bar at the top, type: label:"Pending Deletion"
Press Enter.
You will also see the label next to your files in Google Drive and at the top next to the file name when the file is opened.

Required Action: How to Keep Your Files
If a file with this label is still needed for your curriculum, department, or records, you must ensure it is owned by an active account.
Right-click the file.
Select Make a copy.
This creates a brand-new version of the file where you are the owner. This new copy will not be deleted.
